Some bookish facts about me

I think every reader has their own habits as its true for me too. I have a couple of habits and quirks that I keep myself to. Not intentionally, they are just things that come naturally. I decide to share some of them with you so you can get to know me a bit better. Maybe some of it will be familiar with you because I usually mention them in my reviews.

  1. I don’t do DNFs. Or at least I usually don’t do them. I can count on one hand the occasions when I reached the point of no return and doom a book. I hate to do it and rather suffer through the story even if I don’t like it. I don’t really know why I ‘punish’ myself with it but it’s just like that. Maybe I hope it gets better as I go on or just want to get the full story but it can be an annoying and tiring habit let me tell you. It’s kind of an obsession because even if I force myself to put it down there is a likely chance that I pick it up again later and finish it.
  2. You know those series where it’s not really a series because the main characters are different in all of the books only they play out in the same universe or revolve around a group of friend? You know the ones where you can read them as stand alone? They are mostly common in contemporary but there are a few in paranormal romances too. I hate those because I hate to start a series from book 4 or so. This means that I usually start with book one even if I know that I only interested in the one that comes later. Which leads a lot of complication and sometimes struggle.
  3. I don’t doom series based on only the first book. Maybe I down rate a story because I didn’t like it as much but if my problem wasn’t with the writing style and I can list just one thing that I liked about the story then I probably I will read at least the second book too. I know it sometimes proves futile because the second is not better than the first but I hate to give upon them. Especially if it’s founded on a great idea. No wonder my TBR list is a mile long.
  4. For some reason the genre historical fiction is equivalent with the classic books’ writing style in my head. I don’t know why but subconsciously I pair the two things together which leads me to avoid a lot of historical fictions I think I would love.
  5. I don’t do rereads. In my 10 years as a serious reader there weren’t 10 books that I reread. Not because I didn’t like them but because I don’t think that a story can be as interesting at the second time as it is at first. For one because I know what to expect and the element of surprise is gone. Also I don’t do rereads because I don’t have time for it. I have a mile long TBR list so if I have time to read, I rather choose some new.
  6. I don’t read more than one book at a time. I don’t know how other people do it but when I read I concentrate on one and read that a quick as possible and if I finished I choose the next one. For me it’s quicker this way and more efficient.
  7. I have a serious problem with compulse buying. A beautiful cover or even a slightly interesting synopsis is all I need. Thank to this I currently have more than a thousand books (mostly eBooks) that piled up over the years. Some of them I don’t even know what they are about anymore.
  8. I let myself be influenced too easily when it comes to overhyped books. Even when I know that I won’t like it, because it’s my first instinct after reading the synopsis the tremendous amount of raving reviews about some of them shook up my determination. A lot of time I end up reading them and hate myself for it later because my first idea was the right one.
  9. I mostly read eBooks. For one because I mostly buy those they are usually cheaper and I can buy more books in my budget. Also since I mostly read on the bus and other public transportations when I’m going to school or work it’s easier to take my kindle with me rather than the books.

I think that’s t for now because I can’t think of anything else right now. Maybe later I’m going to do another post similar to this. I hope you liked it.

  1. Book Twins Reviews

fabulous facts!!! I do DNF and I read more than one book at a time – usually ebook and audiobook – but often I loose interest and pick up a different book. I would love to do more rereads – I have so many favorite books that deserve a reread but it’s hard to make time for it.
