Cam DeSantis’ life is a hot, steaming pile. How else would you describe losing your husband, your job, and your money all at once? Desperate times call for desperate measures, so when salvation comes in the form of one intolerable a-hole, who just happens to be the starting quarterback for the vaunted NY Titans, she has no choice but to accept his offer as a live-in nanny slash teacher for his eight year old nephew. Now all she has to do is find a safe place in her mind to hide whenever she feels the need to throat punch him into tomorrow…which is often. Calvin Shaw has zero interest in women. Wait, wait––let me rephrase that. He loves women, he just doesn’t want anything to do with ‘um. Not since his wife, presently ex-wife, got knocked up by the guy she was cheating on him with. Problem is…there’s one living in his house. And he doesn’t know what’s worse, that he promised to be civil, or that he’s attracted to her.

My Thoughts

Wrecking Ball is an amazing romance novel but not the usual type. Its slow burn so much so that until the last third of the book you are not even sure that there is going to happen anything between the two characters. I don’t usually like slow burn romances but I loved every minute of this one. It’s sweet and kept me engaged the whole time. The slow progressing connection between the two main allows room for development and let us really get to know them. Maybe the last part of the book is a bit predictable but still enjoyable and the epilogue is simply adorable.

I felt for Cam thanks to her pretty impossible situation from the very beginning and at the same time I admired her strength to fight through it and come out on the positive end. Also her resolve not to become bitter toward her ex-husband even if she has enough reasons to. She is a bit withdrawn thanks to her past and denies her attraction towards Calvin. It takes a lot of time until they open up for each other after that however they are extremely cute and genuine together. The whole relationship builds upon simple kindness and companionship not extravagant notions. There connection just felt real.
Calvin is grumpy and also withdrawn but for an entirely different reason. He stays a mystery even at the end of the story. We get to see some of his past and the reasons behind his actions but not nearly everything. He runs hot and cold so you never know what he is going to do next. Yet when he lets his walls down he is cute like a little boy. But he is not perfect and demonstrates his less than likeable side a couple of times.

This is a clean cut, quick but not short story without any unnecessary drama. There are conflict situations but they got defused pretty quickly. A light and surprisingly enjoyable sport romance.
