Series: Fall Away #1
Published: February 18th 2014 by Intermix
Synopsis: My name is Tate. He doesn’t call me that, though. He would never refer to me so informally, if he referred to me at all. No, he’ll barely even speak to me. But he still won’t leave me alone. We were best friends once. Then he turned on me and made it his mission to ruin my life. I’ve been humiliated, shut out, and gossiped about all through high school. His pranks and rumors got more sadistic as time wore on, and I made myself sick trying to stay out of his way. I even went to France for a year, just to avoid him. But I’m done hiding from him now, and there’s no way in hell I’ll allow him to ruin my senior year. He might not have changed, but I have. It’s time to fight back. I’m not going to let him bully me anymore.

My first book from Penelope Douglas and I loved it. She has a really good writng style and the story is really dynamic. The book is full of intense emotions and really surprising events.
The book is about Tate who, is being mercilessly bullied in school, and during the story we can follow along her transformation from doormat to a someone who fights back. In the course of a couple of chapters she becames a really sassy person, but with goosd comes the bad because she developes a nasty edge too. She becomes the bully then she feels guilty about her words . However behind her newfound bravado she also hides her deep scars and bruised feelings. Her emotions come through so clearly that it practicly broke my heart. What I don’t like about her character that is her too forgiving nature. I couldnt understand her forgiveness and longing for someone who constantly hurt and humiliated her for years. And this is one of the flaws for me.
On the other side is Jackson, who has some problems so hurts the only person who would do anything for him. His „If I have tu hurt, you cant be happy either” demanour doesn’t make him an easily loveable character. His exuses are really weak and his anger is absolutley misplaced, but that just my opinion. Some of his bullying I thought wa really childish, kind of middle schooler style (the choclate pudding thing or the swimmingpool and keys stunt). However the biggest problem and the more one that caused the bigger impact on Tate life is the fact he renders her social pariah and lets be honest High schoolers can be really cruel and the littlest things can ruin a life.
About the supporting characters: personally I think KC was a horrible best friend, Madoc changed from tormentor to a quite funny and supportive friend so i came to like him.But despite my dislike toward the characters I liked their pairing, I know it kind of contrivesial to the thinds I said before , but I can’t do anything about how I feel. I also loved the flow of the story and the rollercoaster of emotions, the heartache it caused. So its a rare occasion for me, I dont like the characters but absolutley love th book. The only thing I couldn’t gave it a five star because I dont think it convays the right messega or way to handle bullying.
